  • UNOPS

UNOPS has continued to work closely with the UN family, governments and other partners in 2021 to address immediate needs and respond to the longer-term impacts of COVID-19.

UNOPS has been supporting COVID-19 response efforts in Ethiopia, Iraq, Jordan, Lebanon, Nigeria, the State of Palestine, Syria, Ukraine and Yemen as well, using more than US$18 million in funding from the government of Japan. To enhance essential health services, UNOPS is procuring medical equipment and supplies, procuring mobile health clinics, and procuring and installing solar panels to provide a steady supply of renewable energy. UNOPS is also reconstructing primary health care centres as well as rehabilitating and equipping intensive care units, medical wards and a laboratory, among other activities.

In February 2021, UNOPS and Gavi established a new partnership to strengthen national health systems and support vaccination efforts globally. Under the new agreement, UNOPS has started supporting Gavi’s immunisation mission and operations, including in their role as co-lead of COVAX.
