In May 2020, the Government of Japan officially announced its international cooperation package in response to COVID-19 crisis, which included over US$63 million for COVID-19 emergency response and prevention through UNDP. The approved programme includes delivery through 29 country offices across four regions (RBAP, RBA, RBEC and RBAS).
The programme highlights Japan’s focus on human security in the field and includes three Focus Areas: Health Systems Support, Inclusive an Integrated Crisis Management and Response, and Social and Economic Impact Needs Assessment and Response.
This programme is to support and invest in programmes and partnerships that help accelerate a country’s response to, and recovery from, the COVID-19 crisis in an integrated way that fosters development pathways that propel the achievement of the SDG targets by 2030. The health systems support area includes attention on procurement support, service provision to vulnerable populations, digital health and health care waste management.
